The music technology component of the workshop includes using online programs, particularly Myna by Aviary, to compose an original composition. Students in the older group work with the program individually to include certain compositional components such as form, dynamics, and a theme. Each student share their composition with the class as the workshop pr
gresses.
The younger students compose as a class and work with websites by the New York Philharmonic (www.nyphilkids.org). Using a Smartboard, the students learn how to use the website and explored the different activities provided. From learning the instruments of the orchestra to composing, the websites provide an array of activities for the young students. Overall, the music technology class allows each student to express their musical creativity through the use of free online programs and websites without limiting them to extensive knowledge of traditional music notation.
